Let your mind drift as it does before going to sleep, free of all thoughts. You may need to find the state of mind that
works best for you.
Often scrying is best attempted by candlelight or moonlight, when all is quiet. "Crystal-gazing" is the best publicised
form of scrying, but you can use almost any surface that reflects and into which you can gaze deeply. Many semi-precious stones
are suitable or simply a bowl or cauldron of water. You can drop a silver coin or ring into the water if you like a point
of light to be reflected, or you may prefer the surface to be dark. Patience, patience and experiment are important, so you
discover the conditions that work for you.
Don't give up if the first attempt doesn't succeed. If you are unsuccessful the first time, try and try again until you
eventually succeed. If nothing happens after half an hour abandon the attempt and try again on a later date, or at another
lunar phase.
Gaze into what you are using and eventually what you are looking at will seem to disappear and images will form in your
mind, although some people actually 'see' pictures. Make a note of what you see, but do not jump to conclusions about meanings,
for these may be symbolic.
Water is easiest to scry with, but it cannot be trusted. The flame is the most difficult as it trusts its secrets with
few. The best with which to scry is the lueg, or stone.
